Zack, do you always run tempo pace right from the get-go? I noticed that your total mileage equals tempo mileage. I find it a lot easier and smoother to transition to tempo pace after some warmup (1-2 miles). I also try to run some cooldown at the end. This way you prepare your body for the harder effort, minimize risk of injury and get some additional miles in.

Maria-

you are 100% correct. I just went out the door & started faster than normal so I kept the pace up fo rthe entire run, I do need to remember warm up / cool down. Thanks for the reminder : )

Zach - just keep training. Pretty soon you will not be able to forget to warm up. When your fitness increases, so does the difficulty of getting the engine going. When I get out, all I want to do in the first 100 meters is 9:00 pace. For me to get going even at my marathon race pace requires a concentrated effort.
